When Day One is the better fit

Stay with Day One if its free plan covers your writing or you already depend on its capture tools. Switching means learning another routine, so a lower paid price alone may not justify it.

When Inpages is worth considering

Inpages is built around a notebook you can write in and return to. You might keep an everyday diary, a record of building a small business, and a travel journal. With Premium, these can stay in separate journals with their own Photo Books.

See a three-journal example and how to make a digital Photo Book. Essential is enough if one journal and one Photo Book cover your needs.

Understand how private writing is protected

Day One includes end-to-end encryption even on Basic: your journal is locked on your device before it is stored. Privacy alone is not a reason to leave it.

Inpages lets you use Protected Memories, which lock the writing and attachments on your device before saving them. Keep your Recovery Key somewhere safe so you have another way to unlock them if you forget your Vault Password.

Standard Memories support features such as the optional Companion. Protected Memories are excluded from Companion. For questions about access and recovery, read how to choose a private journaling app.

Can you move a Day One archive to Inpages?

Inpages does not currently offer a Day One import. If you want to begin a fresh journal here, keep your older archive in Day One or in an export you have checked. Do not choose Inpages expecting an automatic transfer of your past entries.

Inpages can export your own data as a ZIP archive, but it is not a one-click restore package. The journal export guide explains what is included and how protected entries can be read later.

Decide before you subscribe

Choose for the writing you actually do. Inpages is worth considering when a notebook-style reading experience and separate photo collections are what you want. If neither product fits, our Day One alternatives guide also covers Penzu and Diarium.
